Wondering if anyone has been a summer tourist in Dover and also toured its famous white cliffs..... Is it worth it? .... Then cheapest price for foot passengers to Calais by ferry ..... any nice restaurants and B&B's to recommend on either side?
Many thanks for your input and ideas !
"I have loved England dearly and deeply......" oh oh I forgot myself. Peter, I have been to Dover twice and have not visited the WWII sites. Shame on me. I still plan to. This looks like a good day to me.
There are two ferries -- P&O and Seafrance. P&O is the only one that still takes foot passengers. Round trip is about 15 gpb.
When you pull into Calais, work your way roughly to the SW, then hug the water still heading inland. There's a footbridge across the tidal gate ahead. Use it to get into town.
Most of the places we've eaten are on the side steets off Rue Royale and we've never been disappointed. We favorte cold-water shellfish.
There's one big spot to the north called Entre 2 Mer or something close -- avoid it since it's horrible.
I doubt that you would need a reservation for the ferry. We've never had one, but somebody else would know better.
We've never slept there.
