Hi everyone. We are attending the Ceremony of the Keys on Saturday night and will then need to get to Heathrow to our hotel (we're renting a car and heading out of London the next day). What is the best way to get to Heathrow from the Tower? Tube? Cab? Bus? Thanks for your advice.
I attended the Ceremony of the Keys a few weeks ago. It does not last long so you have plenty of time to walk to the Tower Hill tube station and take the subway to the Heathrow area. Tower Hill station - take District Line west to Hammersmith, xfer to Picadilley line west to Heathrow.
Thanks Geor--I saw on Google maps that we can take the tube but it looks like it's an hour and a half ride. So I didn't know if there was a better option that late at night. We are fine with the length of the ride if a cab would take about the same amount of time and would be more expensive.
My question is where is your luggage going to be? Tower guards aren't going to allow you to roll your bags around or store them for you. This is a 700 year old tradition that the Guards take very seriously. Something to think about.
The tube route will take just over an hour. I honestly think that will be the best way. It is cheap and not difficult. I agree with the suggestion to transfer at Hammersmith; it is an easy transfer point as you just walk across the platform (no changing of levels). However, do check tfl.gov.uk to make sure there are no planned engineering works on the weekend you are traveling that impact this route. I would not recommend taking the tube to Paddington to catch the Heathrow Express. In the best case, you might save 10 minutes; it is hardly worth the inconvenience of changing from tube to rail at Paddington and the huge extra expense. A taxi also won't be much faster ... it will take at least 50 minutes.
