The Staffordshire Hoard

At last I have found out that some of the Staffordshire Hoard will be on display this summer in Birmingham Museum and in Stoke on Trent Potteries Museum!! Does anybody recommend one over the other for a 1 or 2 night stay? Can you suggest a hotel or b and b in either or both cities for us....we are four seniors traveling from London. Also is the train the best way to get to one or both of these cities? Restaurant suggestions gladly accepted too!

Hotel does NOT have to be the cheapest. Close to the museum venues would be nice though.

Many thanks for any information,

Mollie

Birmingham is a bigger city. Stoke-On-Trent is smaller and rather depressed economically - you'd probably have a better time in Birmingham unless you have a serious interest in historic pottery, which is Stoke's speciality.

Both Birmingham and Stoke can be reached from London on Virgin Trains from Euston - the company website is http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/ but I don't know if it takes US credit cards - an American here can probably tell you. You will get much cheaper fares if you book online a few weeks in advance. If all the cheap Virgin fares are gone for the date/time you want there are also cheaper but slower trains from London Marylebone to Birmingham operated by Chiltern Railways - www.chilternrailways.co.uk/.
