The London Tube strike has just begun

I just read on the BBC web site the the Tube strike has
started and service is not expected to be back to normal until friday!!!!

I also read earlier that there is a threatened BA strike in
the summer over a labor dispute with the cabin crews as BA
wants them to take salary cuts. If you are concerned about this, I would keep watching the BBC web site for further news. This strike is not immediately imminent as far as I could tell.

Once again,, why I always try to stay somewhere central. People always say,, "oh you can stay somewhere cheaper if you get out of the center of the city,, the metro or tube is great.. " .. but guess what feet are free , and they are not allowed to go on strike,, LOL I can walk almost anywhere I want to go in Paris, London is a little harder, but many sites are within walking distance of each other..

I'm posting this here too because this really worked for me.
When there was a strike in Milan, I went sightseeing on the Hop on/Hop off bus. I was lucky I was walking distance to these buses! Using the hop on hop off bus during a strike was great! I barely noticed there even was a strike! Use these in London! Like Pat, I always stay central.

I never thought of the Hop on Hop Off bus in case of strike. I never take those buses, but in this case, it's a good idea for a tourist. I am generally sympathetic to strikers; I've been on strike myself and I know it's important.

Brad,, too funny,, but as Rick suggests,, one must "train " for vacation,, a walking program at home,, good for the trip, and good for your health anyways,, and of course I could now go on about >>

.. the best shoes .... but as I am on Fashion Police Probation I will refrain,, do not want another citation...

Surviving a transit strike in Europe will teach you what kind of traveler you are. There is always a "plan B" whether you have thought of it or not. Hotel personnel can help you work out the details. It may cost more money than you had planned. I like to build some flexibility into my itinerary, so that I am sure to be at the airport when I need to be, etc. I don't think I have taken a trip yet when everything went exactly according to plan.

Pat,

Some people's feet do go on strike during their vacation. Thankfully mine have hung in there pretty well so far.

Unfortunately walking may still be the fastest method of transport. Ordinary buses are still running but will be full. The HOHO bus may not be much help because roads tend to get gridlocked with all the extra traffic due to commuters driving in to London.
