I am planning a family trip in summer 2013 to UK and Scotland. Traveling by rail with 1 backpack each. Having problem finding "Left Luggage" facilities in smaller cities especially due to costs, terrorism, whatever. This limits are ability to do little layover day-trips between major stopovers. Except for London there are very few facilities at ant rail stations. Some TI suggested backpacker hostels or bus stations. Does any one have any ideas? The places I am thinking of are: Winchester Portsmouth Bath Durham Pitlochry Scotland.
Stirling, Scotland.
Go to the largest hotel you see in each place and ask if you can leave your backpacks for the day for a fee. I'm betting you will be told "yes" in each case, though maybe not in Winchester. In Winchester go to the tourist office, down near King Alfred's statue, and ask them for advice, if the hotels refuse you.
Thank you. I had not taught of a big hotel. They probably have a luggage room anyway. So I have as (on the fly) options: Bus Stations (intercity) Large Hotels
ask TI
If you go to the TI webpages and click on feedback you can send them a query about this. I got some info from the Inverness TI this way. http://www.visitstirling.org/index.aspx?docid=1&nav1=1 Actually for Pitlochry there is an email link. ; ) http://guide.visitscotland.com/vs/guide/5,en,SCH1/objectId,INF51277Svs,curr,GBP,season,at1,selectedEntry,home/home.html Pam
