Has anyone stayed at The Burlington in Dublin? I'll be attending seminar at The Burlington in early November. I'd like to know if it's a decent place to stay. Also, is it cheaper to buy bus tours online or in person?
Never stayed there because I stay with family when in Dublin BUT last month I was in the hotel meeting with some friends who stayed there. All loved it - there is a really nice large foyer/lounge where you can sit around small tables - with a lovely fire blazing - and have tea and meet up friends and plan your day. I know the hotel for years - even before it changed its name to Burlington and it always had a good reputation as a comfortable place to stay.
Not sure about the price of bus tours - are you looking at Bus Eireann or private tours?
Hi Ennis, thank you for your reply. I feel better about the hotel. As for the bus tours, I was referring to the hop on and hop off bus (red bus?).
I have known a number of people who took the on/off bus this this past summer and all liked it. It goes to all the important sites and you can decide where to hop on and off - I did hear though that the Guinness stop is not worth while. Too expensive and not an actual tour of the brewery at all - which it once was years ago. Now you just view a video of past times and then a "free" Guinness at the end of this. Locals in Dublin think of the Guinness "tour" as a rip off for tourists. Someone told me that Guinness now charge 16 Euro for this.
We did the hop on/hop off bus in Dublin and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it was about 14 euro per person, but I could be wrong. We bought the ticket as we got on the bus. The nice thing was that, as the afternoon wore on and jet lag hit the whole family, we got off near our hotel for a quick nap and we were able to finish our tour the next day on the same ticket, as the tickets are good for a 24 hour period.
