Taxi from Dublin to Ennis

Does anyone know how much (ball park) it would cost to take a taxi from Dublin to Ennis?

Since it's over a three hour drive (and back empty for the driver) I would be very surprised if you could even find a taxi to take you clear across the country like that. You could easily take a train to Galway, and then a bus beyond that, though.

EDIT: Tim is right - Limerick is better.

Deb,

Can you give us more info on what your plans are? We can be more helpful then.

If you really want to get from Dublin to Ennis without driving, you could public transit. It's not very extensive in the west of Ireland, but worst case you could take a train to Galway and then pick up a bus (or taxi if necessary) to Ennis from there.

Taking the train to Galway would mean going far afield. Trains go directly from Dublin to Limerick in a little over two hours. It would be a short hop from Limerick to Ennis by either bus or taxi.

It's approx. 24 miles from Limerick to Ennis. Way to go would be to catch the train from Dublin to Limerick. Ball park figure for taxi from Dublin to Ennis - 380 Euros!!!!!!

I'd definitely vote for bus/train, Deb. Remember for the taxi, like Nancy said - IF you can find one is going to be paid for both directions aka the whole day. If you're set on that, I'd look at hiring a driver, and maybe working with a travel agency.

My husband and I have been in France since the beginning of July. We will leave France the first week of October and plan to spend a week in Ireland. We fly back to the states from Dublin. Since we have already been to Dublin we thought we might go to Ennis (family roots). However since we have huge suitcases we really did not want to be hauling them from trains to buses. The taxi is obviously cost prohibited. I think we will be staying in Dublin. Any other thoughts??

If you have day packs, stuff them with what you'll need for a short trip from Dublin to Ennis and back. Your hotel in Dublin will probably be willing to store your large bags. You should offer to pay, but it's possible they won't charge you.

I am relatively certain that Heuston Station in Dublin has a left luggage facility. If your hotel can not store it leave it at the train station while you are gone.

We did the storage option at Frankfurt Airport in Germany and flew to Bergen for a cruise. Leaving the big items (in our cases, bikes) worked really well. I'd get out of Dublin - but leave the stuff.
