Tarbert Killimer Ferry and Insurance?

Hi all, Leaving for Ireland in 3 weeks. Booked car rental with Auto Europe and listed in terms and conditions is the following: Vehicles may not travel on ferries and/or to Island locations without pre-approval from Auto Europe. Auto Europe is checking with the rental companies for pre-appoval to use the ferry, according to Auto Europe the car is not covered by insurance while on the ferry. We are planning on taking the Tarbert-Killimer ferry. Does anyone know anything about rental companies not covering the car while on ferries? Hope you can help
Thanks JoAnne

That ferry is a 20 min. river crossing, not across open water. I have never specifically asked a rental company in Ireland about it, but you do see lots of rental cars on it.

So they've told you that you can't do it and you will ignore them. Hope you don't have a fender bender and if you do that they don't ask questions... If your insurance is void better hope the police don't ask any questions. You can be locked up for driving with no insurance.

Hi Nigel No, they did not tell me I could not take car on ferry, car may not be covered without permission, I think?? Auto Europe is checking this out. Hertz may not cover unless you have permission, other companies may. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this? Thanks to all

We made the ferry crossing this past October and rental car was from Hertz-did not get pre-approval and knew nothing about such a policy.

Hi all,
My husband just received a call back from Auto Europe regarding ferry, they do not give anyone permission to take car on ferry, insurance will not cover any damage while on ferry. Also, rental will be from Avis, not Hertz. I can cancel with Auto Europe, does anyone know if it is the same with all rental companies? Thanks
