I've traveled to Europe several times with my netbook with good success, but this year I'm considering buying a smaller tablet (iPAD mini or a Nexus 7). I'm thinking it might be nice to have something I can carry in my purse. I've found my iPOD to be not terribly helpful as a traveling device. Can anyone point up the various issues in using a smaller tablet (NOT a full-size iPAD) versus a light netbook? Also how necessary or helpful is it to have cellular access as opposed to a wifi only model? Thanks.
Hi, you will get both sides in this I have a solid state netbook, and a nexus 7, mywife an ipad . I'd suggest the mini ipad, get at least the 32 version, the screen is better proportioned, go and compare them in store. The only thing that I am not a fan of is the apple on line mapping app. nexus7, has a bug where recharging will sometimes not start when plugged it, if the battery life is very low, so its a pain if you don't have the work around or not IT savy. I'm taking the netbook, as I want a raw photo processor and not I'm simply not a fan of onscreen keyboards. You loose half of the screen space when active. my wife loves her ipad, so we are covered.
remember whatever you take load a "kindle" viewer, and "pdf" viewer, scan your document, and look at an off-line map apps regards
One issue that Gerard did not address is your question about cellular access vs wifi. Cellular data can be crazy expensive. Wifi can be free or low cost, and is widely available.
