I like the Cassidys Hotel on Upper O'Connell Street. Its a near enough walk to everything, but you're far from all the touristy mess. There is also a little grocery store about a block away... If by fun place you're referring to pubs, I personally like going to the sorts of places the locals go to. Murrays on O'Connell street is great, also there is a place called Porter House right at the entrance of Grafton Street. Temple Bar is good, but it's more touristy. You'll meet more international people around there. Dublin is a great city, and the Irish are very warm and welcoming. You'll have a great time where ever you go...
