Our 2012 trip is all booked and planned. Now we're actually looking at 2013. We will go back to Sweden but are wondering about taking a few days to go to St. Petersburg - my husband really wants to go to the Pushkin museum. Has anyone made this trip from Sweden and, if yes, what's the best way to get there - fly? If you've flown, what airline did you take? Thanks.
Sharon, I have not done this. However, there is a new ferry line that offers routes between Stockholm and St Petersburg. When I read about this, I recall that it took care of the visa requirement which appealed to me. The cruise line is called the St Peter Line. You might see what you can find out on google. I'm thinking about it for myself the next time I visit Stockholm.
One more thing ... here is an article from National Geographic site about the cruise option. http://intelligenttravel.nationalgeographic.com/2012/01/31/cruising-to-st-petersburg/
Very interesting article, Laura. Thanks.
@Laura, thanks for this info- have just this week been looking at cruises with long stops in St. Petersburg. There was a lot of discussion on board a Black Seas cruise last year about whether or not pax really had to have a visa. People claimed the 72 hour rule applied to the cruise ship. I still don't know the answer, tho reading the St. Peters Line FAQs looks like using it and buying the tour would work.
