Sussex Gardens Hotel

I'm planning a trip to London in October and my travel agent has booked me into the Beverley City Hotel. Does anyone have experience with the area or with the hotel?? It seems convenient being a few blocks from Paddington Station.

The Garden Court is in Kensington Gardens Square, the closest tube station is Bayswater, which is very close to Paddington. Rick Steves says in his guidebook that this hotel may be the best value in all of London.

My wife and I thought to stay here, but then I decided to stay elsewhere. I really think that overall, the best location is near Victoria Station, or in Bloomsbury or Russell Square. We're staying in Knightsbridge in a one bedroom apartment, which we found for the same price as the room at base2stay in Earl's Court.

I second Dave's recommendation...the Garden court is in Sussex Gardens, with much better user reviews and with prices comparable to the Beverley...note that the rooms are small...that's London...I've also stayed at the Quality Crown Hotel Hyde Park (also in Sussex Gardens...just one block from Paddington station)...their rating is not as high but all of the recent reviews are very favorable, and I found it to be clean, with decent sized bathrooms, with a good English breakfast and good staff.

The Garden Court Hotel is a fine hotel but it is not exactly cheap with rates crudely around $200 and for the area arguably overpriced. It is also not in Paddington but in Bayswater, about a mile away.

The best independent hotel on Sussex Gardens at Paddington outside the 4 stars is generally perceived as the Darlington Hyde Park on Sussex Gardens, but is slightly more expensive than even the Garden Court Hotel.
The Paddington Rooms are excellent and value for money, if you are looking for something around $150-200. Also worth checking out offers at the Park Inn, Corus and Commodore Hotels in Lancaster Gate, 5 minutes walk from Paddington, in October these fine hotels often deep discount.

Do check tripadvisor for reviews....some of the hotels near Paddington Station on on a noisy noisy street....check traveler's comments about noise, comfort of beds and safety........

Bob, good point. I wanted to stay at the Darlington Hyde Park, but it was a little expensive. Alternatively the Hyde Park Radnor hotel is under 100 pounds a night and has good reviews on tripadvisor.com. We also found a hotel called Hyde Park Rooms which is on Sussex Gardens and has rooms for two starting at 58 pounds for en-suite including breakfast.
