Hello! My husband and I are traveling to Ireland in april 2012. We are planning on renting a car and were planning on getting super CDW based on information from this and RS Ireland travel guide. Has anyone run into age restrictions with super CDW? I was on Hertz's website and they have posted that it can't be purchased if the main driver is under 30 (we are 29 and 28). Just wondering if anyone else had encountered that...we really want to be able to get it just in case!!
Thank you!!
That may be a restriction peculiar to Hertz. First thing I'd do is check with other rental companies. A lot of Ireland travelers on this board use Dan Dooley or Irish Car Rentals. Super CDW may be called "excess waiver."
Thank you Tom! I was getting frustrated with the rental car websites. On the advice of many, I wanted to get a car through Dan Dooley, but couldn't find any options for the Super CDW, or on any other websites, for that matter. Now I know what the excess waiver means, I can get exactly what I'm looking for! Two questions; when I make the reservation using my credit card, does the company put an immediate hold on your credit card or does that happen when you pick up the car? Also, have you heard or had experience with a company that puts an additional amount a credit card as a reserve? Angela, I've not seen any age restriction that you mentioned - with the exception of the elderly. I would try another company, I'm sure not every company would discriminate against you and your husband's ages. I had a friend who went to Trinity college (more than ten years ago), but she talks about getting away on the weekends and using a rental car - though she can't remember the company's name. So, it's doable. I wish you and your husband a fantastic time on your trip and safe travels! Patty
@Patty - in 15 years of renting cars in Europe, I've never had a hold or a reserve put on my credit card. I know this can happen, but I don't know when or why it might.
