We are thinking about flying to Rome from London on Christmas Day as flights are open. However, GETTING to the airport from London is a problem since it looks like all public transportation is shut down. Any suggestions?
You may, at a premium, be able to arrange a private taxi. Its getting pretty late for that though. Bear in mind if you decide to go on Boxing Day instead that the London Underground will be on strike.
I would suggest getting a room closer to the airport for the 24th....maybe in Windsor which is only a 15 minute taxi ride...but it might be to late to get a room. A great hotel is Ye Harte and Garter Hotel, its across the street from Windsor Castle.
I just saw the official leaflet for Christmas travel in London and according to that the Oxford Tube coach service that usually operates from London to Oxford is making a special detour via Heathrow Airport on Christmas Day. http://www.oxfordtube.com/serviceinfo_8033.php
