Suggestions for affordable restaurants and pubs around South Bank

I will be staying around the South Bank area and would appreciate recommendations for affordable (no need to be trendy) restaurants and pubs in that area. Also is Yo! Sushi worth a look? Would want to dine where the locals dine. Thank you.

Tas has three restaurants in the area http://www.tasrestaurant.com/ on Burough High Street, The Cut, and Tas Pide on New Globe Walk. Good Turkish food at moderate prices, menus with prices are on their website. Lunch at their Bloomsbury location was excellent, I assume the rest are. You can graze your way through lunch at Borough Market Thursday - Saturday. The Market Porter is popular with the real ale crowd, The George Inn is historic. Let http://www.fancyapint.com/ be your guide.

Yo Sushi is pretty expensive. The nicely affordable Japanese chain is Wagamama, and there are branches at the Royal Festival Hall and close to the Cannon Street railway bridge. I would also suggest the Founder's Arms pub by Tate Modern, which is a very modern building but has great views of the river and quite nice food at lunchtime.

is Yo! Sushi worth a look? It would depend if you like sushi. Not fantastic, but decent. Or if you don't know much about sushi and would like to see it before you eat it. Yo! Sushi is a national chain. Most locations have a bar arrangement with stools linked by a small conveyor belt upon which travel various coloured dishes containing small portion of different things. If you want one you just snaffle it as it passes by. Each colour has a different price. At the end the various dishes are added up and you pay the total. Some locations have a robotic drinks waiter. OK sushi, interesting presentation.

I would suggest either Wright Brothers Oyster and Porter House(mainly seafood) 11 Stoney St., or Tapas Brindisa(18-20 Southwark St.) both Borough Market area. The top floor cafe at the Tate Modern is good, also. The Anchor and Hope pub, near the Globe is good pub food. None of these is a tourist trap, and yes, locals eat at these places.

I went back in my "saved" articles file and found a great article from the Guardian newspaper for you. http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2011/apr/22/south-london-budget-restaurants-food "South London Top 10 Budget Eats" is the article title. Three of the places he mentioned, I have been to and liked. (Tate Modern Cafe, Tapas Brindisa, and Borough Market sandwich stalls-Especially Roast's roast beef sandwich!) All the others in the article are now on my list to try. Hope this helps.
