Suggested Driving Routes for Dingle Pennisula

In March I will be driving from Killarney to the Dingle Pennisula area. I am looking for suggestions as to routes of travel. I want to include a drive of Slea Head and go over Conner Pass on either the way to Dingle or when leaving. I know I can begin at Tralee and go across the northern coast road or take R561 across the southern part of the pennisula. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

In about five hours driving time, you can go from Killarney acrosss the south side of the peninsula ( unremarkable until just short of Dingle town) and out to Slea Head, make a loop to the north (via Clogher and Murreagh) that comes back through Dingle town, back up across the Connor Pass, and then along the north shore to Tralee.

Clockwise seemed to me to the best way to do it (it's what I'd read and the buses seemed to be going the other way). The north shore from Clogane back to the mainland was my favorite part. You need to allow at least a couple hours to poke around Dingle town. If I had it to do over, I'd probably skip Slea Head -- there where a lot of other similar places in the Republic.

We have visited the Dingle peninsula three times. You will be able to explore most of the Dingle area in a full day of driving---it really isn't that big. Most of the archeological sites are at the western end of the peninsula. If you check a map, the Dingle peninsula is less than forty miles long and about ten miles wide.

Do not make plans regarding driving the Conner Pass until you get to Dingle. If it is foggy or rainy, you won't get any views up there---you need a day that is either clear or has a high cloud cover.

We drove from Tralee over Conner Pass to Dingle/we liked this better than trying to come down from Dingle as going up you are on the inside of the road and we felt safer. agree you can see Dingle in a day.
