Study Abroad London- Airfare for Student

Hello- My daughter will be studying in London for the Spring 2012 semester. I have googled airfares etc..but, does anybody know of a website or company that gives student discount on flights? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you-

in all the years I have shopped for airfares I have never seen student discounts,, unless its a group fare. Good luck,, i would search out various search sites, Kayak isn't bad.

When I studied abroad, the airfare was part of the price and was arranged by the school. Can your daughter's school offer any assistance? There used to be "youth" tickets, but those were group tickets, as Pat said.

I agree with Nancy. When my daughter studied abroad in London airfare was part of the package. I assumed the school was given a discount when making the reservations.

The Study abroad program gave me a a travel agency they use, but the agency said their rates are higher than if I was buying directly from the airline...that didn't make sense to me! I'll keep searching....Thank you.

suggest you try EWR to cities other than London in the UK and then use the train to get to the London area. my personal preference ia always Manchester and then train to London.
last I checked it was around $850 EWR to MAN round trip on CON.

Maria: what was the name of the agency they recommended? Was it STA Travel? You can likely do better on your own. Being in Princeton, you could always check different airports on this end to see who has better prices (Newark, JFK, Philly). Aer Lingus often runs decent webfares from NYC and Boston if your daughter is ok with getting a connecting flight with them through Dublin or Shannon. If she's got a lot of luggage for the semester, it may be worth paying more for a non-stop flight just to be sure all her bags arrive when she does.

Hi Ceidleh- The agency is Waldorf Travel in Oregon. I didn't thnk of checking Philly. I checked Continental from Newark last night and found sometihing for $850 -is this a reasonable price? I have read that prices usually go down mid week. Don't want to wait too long. Thank you for your suggestion.

$850 looks like a good deal, especially if it really allows you to stay for a full semester. A lot of air fare deals only work if the return flight is within 30 days, occasionally you get 90 days.

Maria - You might have a look at www.statravel.com. They have a round trip direct flight for $707. I'm not sure of your daughters travel date so I put in a depature of Jan 2-12 and a return of June 2012. Price quotes include all taxes & fees.

When our son studied in Spain for a semester, the study abroad office offered an airfare package that had a confirmed departure date with an open return date. The only requirement was that the returned date had to be scheduled two weeks in advance. That allowed him to complete the semester, do another month or so of travel and then come home on his schedule. Worked well and was reasonably priced for the convenience. The study abroad office should be of greater help than just suggesting a travel agency. If the study abroad office is not useful then a direct call to the airlines marketing office/group sales, etc. may be necessary.
