John - I am writing this from my hotel room in London. Your question hit me since we just visited Stonehenge yesterday. Rather than take a tour out of London to Stonehenge directly what you might want to do is make good use of your time and combine a few sites. We went to Salisbury, saw the town, market and the outstanding Cathedral, then took a 2 hour tour with a company called The Stonehenge Tour to Stonehenge and Old Sarun. The double decker bus for the tour was easy to catch - right at the train station in Salisbury. The fee was 18 pounds. Check it out at www.thestonehengetour.info. We did the whole day trip in about 7 hours in and out of Waterloo.
