Hello: We've decided to apply for the Stone Circle Access to Stonehenge for April 27th, 2012 at 6:30p.m. Assuming we get that slot my question is if we're taking public transport(Waterloo-Salisbury and then Salisbury Tour bus to get to the circles) are there cabs available to take directly to Stonhenge from Salisbury train station and back. I looked online at the Salisbury tour bus and it seems the last bus to depart from Salisbury is at 4:00p.m and the last bus from Stonehenge departs at 6:00p.m We will not even have the bus option if our Circle access starts at 6:30. Has anyone done this? If so, did you reserve a cab to and fro from Salisbury and back or did you call for a cab from Stonehenge when you were ready. I hear the other option is to take a "transport only" tour/bus just to take you there and bring you back from Stonehenge. Has anyone taken that option.
You can take a taxi...Stonehenge is 9 miles from Salisbury...here is a website that might help you..http://www.salisburytaxis.co.uk
Thank you Robin. Do you know what the approx price range would be for just transfer from Salisbury-Stonehenge and back. The site wants us to send them an email and I'm just doing a preliminary plan to include prices.
Thank you in advance.
It would be around £40.00 round trip.
Thank you.
Additionally, I'm filling out the application for the Stonhenge circle access. Since we are a group of 4, do I have to put everyone's name in the application. Its not relaly very clear. It just says to put one name/company name and how many are in the group. Anyone have experience doing this?
Hi aRies, no experience with this..but as you said the application asks for your name and number of people in your party. I would just put your name...I'm sure if they need the others they will let you know. It needs to be pre-paid also.
Any advice on how long it will take at Stonehenge traditional method vs Stone Circle Access?
Stonehenge private access is for one hour. That was enough time for us to enjoy the site and take many photographs. If you do general admission, you can stay as long as you want. However, you cannot get close to the stones.
Hi Stephanie,
Just an FYI: If you do go for the Stone Circle Access which is outside the traditional hours, you can also visit Stonehenge during regular hours. This might be good so you can avail yourself of the audio guides, gift shops, extra photo opportunities etc
Have you heard back on your app? We sent one in a few days and haven't heard anything yet.
I got my email today. We got our first choice on day but second on time. Our access is at 8:30 but perhaps it's for the best as the sunset that day is at 9:20.
I couldn't help noticing that the last post here says sunset on 27 April is at 9.20, which seemed late to me
- according to this website, it's considerably earlier. Might be a good idea to check. Cheers. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=136&month=4&year=2012&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1
Sorry for any confusion, I tagged on to the original post asking how long it took her to get a response (it took 4 days for me). Our tickets are for July 3rd, hence the 9:20 time.
Ahh, now I understand! Thanks David. I live about 30 miles from Stonehenge, so I was concerned that it would be a disappointment in April. In July, it should be beautiful that time of the day. Enjoy!
according to wunderground's almanac, actual sunset will be 8:21pm BST (remember leap year). Civil twilight will be 8:58pm.
Nigel, I must have a wrong location. Here it say 9:21. http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/EGLL/2012/7/3/DailyHistory.html
It says 9.20 on the site I posted, too. That's for July 3. And that seems right to me, it stays light late round here.
I know from sitting outside lots of pubs in summer, lol!
Its all these dates. I didn't see the change to July. The times I gave were 27th April. July it'll be light, even after twilight for ages and ages. Light first thing, too.
OK, so Stonehenge AND a pub then!!
Thank you!
