In my Scandinavia book, and on this site, Rick says:
July 4: Fourth of July festivities: Stockholm I can't find any reference to these festivities outside of this website/book. ARE there any festivities?
I seem to remember that Stockholm holds a jazz festival in the summer. I think it occurs in July, but I'm not certain.
Stockholm pride week is the first week of July. which is: "the biggest gay Pride celebration in Scandinavia, with five days of partying, plus debates and entertainment. The heart of the action is the large open space of Tantolunden park on the island of Södermalm. The festival includes art exhibitions, debates, films, parties and, on the Saturday, the big parade." That's the only one I found for that week. The jazz festival starts mid-July.
Another choice, Stockholm Summer Games: "Every summer, thousands of young swimmers from all over the world gather at Stockholm's Eriksdalsbadet to compete in the annual Summer Games, with five age categories and two relay categories. Meanwhile, mums and dads can explore the beauties of Stockholm." The website says it's from 4-7 July

I lived in Stockholm for a couple of years. I don't know why RS book would list "fourth of July festivities". There usually are some 4th of July events sponsored by expat groups like the American Women's Club and I think the U.S. Embassy has an invitation only event. However, these are not things that a tourist would typically attend.
I agree; it seems a very strange comment to include in both the book and website (especially if it's inaccurate.) I'm not going to Stockholm for an American holiday! Thanks for suggesting alternate activities/festivals during that time.
