Hi Laurie, We recently stayed in the City Backpackers Hostel in Stockholm. We had a private double room with a private bathroom. It was very nice and close to everything. Just a few minute walk from the train station. We are a couple in our 40's and felt comfortable there and slept well.

Thanks for the recommendation. I looked at a YouTube video of the hostel and it looks like rooms, kitchen etc. are all in the basement! Am I interpreting the pictures correctly? Are all the rooms in the basement?

You can't beat this place; http://www.svenskaturistforeningen.se/en/Discover-Sweden/Facilities-and-activities/Stockholm/Vandrarhem/STF-Hostel-af-ChapmanSkeppsholmen/ (you'll have to copy and paste that whole address) It's two hostels in one; the Skeppsholmen, which is a kind of typical dorm building, and the af-Chapman, which is a permanently anchored boat right next to the other. Both are nice, comfortable, reasonably priced (for Scandinavia) and definitely NOT a "party" place.

WOW!! You are right! The price for the 3 nights at a Scandic hotel is even a little less than the hostel I booked + includes breakfast! Thank you so much for that suggestion!

Need to correct myself regarding the Scandic Hotel price. I didn't look closely enough and the ONE night price (about $250.00) at a Scandic Hotel was equal to 3 nights in a hostel! Wanted to make sure others didn't make the same mistake. The breakfast looks fabulous but we don't eat enough to make up that difference!

Hi Laurie! We were in Stockholm last week and stayed at the Omena Hotel- another good budget option. The City Backpacker Hostel was located nearby and I liked the looks of it. The location is perfect - I think you'll be happy there. Some places that we found for less expensive meals were the La Neta (tacos); Drottninghof (in Rick's book); Vapiano Pasta Pizza Bar (also in Rick's book). Also a pastry shop just across the street from La Neta - Eders. Very delicious!
Our favorite site was the Vasa Museum - really amazing! Enjoy Stockholm!
