Stockholm early / late

I have several places to visit, including Skansen (which is open late). Most activities seem to be open around 11 and close around 5. Are there activities I can put off until later (after 5) or start earlier (like maybe a walk in a nice park) when the many things are closed? I'm not interested in 'partying' or bar scenes...looking for things historical/pretty/cultural/etc.

Thanks!

What time of year will you be there, Laurel. It makes a big difference in Stockholm because in the winter it starts getting dark at 3:30. My favorite thing to do at night is to walk around Gamla Stan, the old town. It is magical at night. I don't care that much about shopping: I just love walking around the old narrow streets. You can do that early in the morning or in the evening.

I'll be there in July, so plenty of light. I was wondering if Durjesgarten (spelled wrong, but to the N/E of Skansen) was a nice place to walk around.

Thanks!

Djurgården is a nice place to walk around; there are a number of places where you can walk along the water. Gamla Stan is also a good place in the morning or evening. On Södermalm there are some terrific views over the city from the street called Fjällgatan. Or you could walk around Kungsträdgården (it is not that large) and stop for a coffee at Wayne's Coffee. If you like to swim, the outdoor public pool at Eriksdalsbadet opens early in the morning and it also has a sauna. It is near the Skanstull tunnelbana station. Östermalms Saluhallen which is a market opens around 9:30 in the morning and it also an interesting place to visit.

A number of the museums are open late one night per week in the summer.

Another evening suggestion is to go to dinner at one of the places where you can sit outside on the water. Take the boat to Fjäderholmen and eat at Fjäderholmarna's Krog or to Nacka Strand for Restaurang J. Both of these places are fairly pricey, but have really nice settings.

One other park that is interesting ... On the southern part of Södermalm, there is a park with lots of tiny gardening cottages with garden plots. There have been allotments in this area for nearly 100 years. The area is called "tantolunden". I think this is a beautiful area to walk around in the summer time.
