Stockholm Day Tour from ARN?

Terehomikust! I'm having to layover in Stockholm for 9 hours on Saturdar, June 20th enroute to Tallinn. I already have a room w/ Rest'nFly at ARN but thought, heck, why not look into a day tour of Stockholm from the airport. Appreciate any help~ jan PDX

The Arlanda Express train will zip you from the airport to the central station in downtown Stockholm in 20 minutes. Then you could do a hop-on hop-off bus or boat tour from downtown. You could visit the Vasa museum. You could walk around the Gamla Stan (the old city). You'd have lots of options, just look at a guidebook and see what appeals. No need to vegetate at the airport.

Agreed. Take the Arlanda Express to Stockholm and stretch your legs a bit. We enjoyed the Vasa Museum, but if it's a nice day, get off and wander around town a bit, especially down by the water.

Thanks, guys~ This looks very doable and you both agree about the Vasa Museum and the Arlanda Express...The Old City is something that also appeals to me as does a river tour, weather-permitting.
Many thx again. jan

Jan, I agree with the suggestion to take the Arlanda Express. The Central Train Station is connected to T-Centralen (the central station for the subway or tunnelbana). From there, you can go just one stop on red or green lines to Gamla Stan. After visiting Gamla Stan, you can take a a ferry from Slussen (just across from Gamla Stan) over to Djurgården and visit the Vasa Museet (or depending on time that you arrive, do this in reverse).

Alternatively, from outside the central station you can take the #47 bus that leaves outside the station over to the Vasa Museum.

If you think you will be using public transport ("SL") for the day, you may find it convenient to buy a one-day travel card for SL which is good for subway and buses. I think you might be able to use the one-day card on the ferry to Djurgården(I know that you can use the monthly SL card but don't know if this is true for 24 hour card). You can buy the one-day card at a Pressbyrån (there is one in the station). There is also an SL information center there where you can buy tickets.
