Will be arriving on Eurostar at St. Pancras at 19:36 on a Tuesday and flying out of Gatwick the next afternoon. Am looking for lodging by St. Pancras. Doesn't have to be fancy. It's only one night, and by the I'll be toured out. Maybe just someplace to have breakfast and a quick walkabout before heading to the airport via the First Capital Connect at St. Pancras. Any lodging suggestions?
Consider the Jesmond Hotel (http://www.jesmondhotel.org.uk/) on Gower Streeta long walk or short taxi ride from St. Pancras. Small, simple rooms with a good breakfast. You could visit the nearby British Museum if time allows before your flight.
Good luck.
The St. Pancras area struck me as very commercial and not very attractive. It's only about 1.5 miles to the Bloomsbury / British Museum area - I suggest you consider getting a hotel in that area so you can have a nice pub dinner and a pleasant morning walk before that cramped afternoon flight back across the pond.
We stayed at the MacDonald Hotel near St. Pancras. It wasn't fancy, but the price was right and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was also included which was a nice perk. It was probably only a 3-5 minute walk to both King's Cross and St. Pancras from the hotel.
