Taking our 12 YO grandson to England and Wales next week. Would love to see some local (not professional) sports at colleges, YMCA, local communities, etc. Looks like rugby season is about over. Any other sports to check in to?
Start of the cricket season. You can find local cricket matches in many (not quite "most") villages and towns all over England and Wales. Also in local parks in London. Usually on weekends but also late afternoons later in the summer when the days are long. You could also check local newspapers, YMCAs etc- you could even find some basketball
Cricket could be your best bet. You'd need to find a village cricket match. There may still football / rugby matches on - but they'll be from local rugby or football clubs and probably will be friendlies. It depends on where you're staying. There's also bowls, but that might be too sedate for a 12 year old :D I had a quick search for "Village Cricket Teams Warwickshire" (Warwickshire being the county I live in, and found a few team websites that show they're playing matches all through May and June. You should be able to do the same for wherever your staying (i.e. in Oxford, Oxfordshire, in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, in York, North Yorkshire etc). I'm vaguely aware that there are some basketball teams in the UK, but to be honest its such a marginal sport that I have no idea if they're still playing, or if the season has ended.
