Southwark neighborhood in London?

Is this a nice place to get a hotel in? I was looking at B&B's in the Belgravia neighborhood but to save some money I'm now looking at discount hotels and found a couple of newer ones in the Southwark neighborhood. Is it a decent area? Can I still walk to the best London sights?

It is a decent area, much gentrified and sloan-rangered (britspeak for yuppied). Now getting littered w condos. Nice Battersea Park. Plenty of bridges into Central London and good Tube access.

During one of my trips to London I stayed at Southwark Rose Hotel. The hotel compared to some I have stayed in and paid more in was not bad at all.

If by best London sights you mean the well known ones like Westminster Abbey/Big Ben/Trafalgar Square. It is a quick hop across a bridge and then probably a 20 minute walk?

There is a large market nearby, the Tate Modern is right there, and a wine experience place is there as well.

The biggest disadvantage we found with the Southwark was the distance we had to walk to Tube Stops and the lack of a useful (for us) west/east tube line (i.e. district/circle/picadilly/central).
