We are staying in a condo right across the bridge near the Tate. Does anyone know what type of area this is (I have been to London multiple times but am not familiar with this area)? Thanks

Milennieum Bridge? Southwark Bridge? Blackfriar's Bridge?
Interesting that you've been multiple times and not crossed the river to Explore it. Lots to see and do there. The Globe, National Theatre, Borough Market, Butler's Wharf.

Blackfriars Bridge! The reason I have never been to this area is that through the years I did a lot of work at the American Embassy and usually never ventured more than a few miles in either direction.

Ah. Kind of like living in W. LA and venturing to downtown.
Southwark is now somewhat trendy.

We usually stay at the Premier Inn at County Hall..However, just a year ago it was full so I booked us in to the Southwark PI. Love the area, also very near London Bridge. I'd stay there again. Just a 5 minute walk from the Bourough Market, The Golden Hind, The Clink and Southwark Cathedral.
