Southsea Beach England

On June 17, I will be traveling from London to Portsmouth to catch a ferry to Caen, France. My originaL plan was to take a late afternoon train to Portsmouth as my ferry doesn't leave until 10:00pm. That said, I'm wondering if I should take an earlier train and spend a few hours in Portsmouth, including Southsea Beach. Does anyone heve experience with Portsmouth and Southsea Beach? If so, I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks. Tom

Royal Marine Museum, HMS Victory, Southsea Castle, Air Museum, D-Day Museum, Naval Museum, Submarine Museum. Listed in descending order of merit, obviously. Maybe get there a couple of days early? And the Mary Rose if they've got that open again yet.

Thanks Ed. Is the beach itself worth visiting for an afternoon?

Not for me. It's a typical English shingle beach with the obligatory tourist pier, etc. But, look where I live. I'd have to wear a mask and a hood if I walked on anybody else's beach.

I live not far from Portsmouth.
I think Ed's suggestions are excellent. I found going to HMS Victory was really interesting.
