Southern England & Northern France

My husband and I are begining prep on our first trip to Europe, we have decided on London & Paris w/as many other places we can hit in 2-3 weeks. We are thinking about flying in & out of Paris... unless someone has a better idea. Any tips or itinerary ideas?

I would not fly in and out of Paris or London. Fly into one city and then home from the other, called open jaw so that way you are not back tracking. What do you want to see, countryside, castles, etc. Let us know what you are interested in.

Gail, thanks for the fast reply. My husband is a big history buff and loves castles. We know we want to go to Bath, Stonehenge & Windsor in England. In France, we are pretty open to ideas but are looking for more of a "relaxed" travel itinerary with lots of cheese!

If your husband is a castle buff there are a number around England and Wales other than Windsor- Bodiam, Hever, Dover in south East; millions in North Wales and for 'dolled up" how about Leeds castle in kent and warwick castle in west

In addition to the castles mentioned by Brian, there are also some interesting ones in the southwest of England. Possibilities include Corfe and Restormel. Arundel ( haven't been to that one!) is huge and lies between the castles in the southwest and the southeast........There are also several large castles and abbeys in Normandy and Brittany, if you prefer France.......If you want to visit Stonehenge, you might want to plan ahead ( takes a couple of months) and reserve for "private access." .........We have visited these areas several times. Our favorite itinerary was fly to LHR, get rental car and visit the countryside, ............return car to LHR. Travel to St. Pancras station in central London, take the Eurostar to Paris.(also book Eurostar well in advance for reasonable fares)................ Visit Paris, then get rental car for French countryside, return car at Calais ferry port, take ferry to England to see White Cliffs of Dover, train to London. ..........See London, fly home.
