Southampton to London via Windsor Castle

Would it be worth doing this? We arrive in Southampton from our cruise in October. Celebrity offers a transfer excursion from Southampton to Heathrow Airport via a guided tour of Windsor Castle, with time to shop or stroll. It is 5 hours and 45 minutes for $120 per person. Because of the distant location from London of Windsor Castle, would it make any sense to take the Celebrity excursion and when we end at the Airport, just take our own transportation into London from there? Am I being crazy or what? Debbie

I personally wouldn't. I just looked, if you booked a ticket now for...Southampton to London there was several (cheapest) for £5.00 (9:10, 10:13, 11:13 etc.)£5.00 =$7.63, at other hours it was for ?£35.00 which would be $53.00, but of course these prices are for if you booked today, but it gives you an idea what they will be if you book your tickets ASAP. Then you could take the train from Paddington Station in London to Windsor, it's a 35 minute train ride, a return ticket (around trip) would be £9.90. If you go on your own to Windsor you can spend as much or as little times as you want. While in Windsor you could walk down to Windsor Great Park (five minute walk) and over to Eton (8 minute walk). My suggestion is based on your post, it sounds as if you will be going into London after the tour of Windsor.

I would take the transfer excursion, much more straightforward. Presume they also look after your luggage while you are sightseeing? If you do it yourself take a taxi from Windsor to Heathrow rather than go back into London.
