Solvorn or Balestrand?

Hi all, As part of our Norway trip, my husband and I will have 3 nights on the Songefjord. I wanted to do 2 nights in Balestrand and 1 night in Solvorn, however, the Balestrand hotel is not available for two nights. Thus, I have booked the following: Night 1 -- Lodge in Aurland at the Vangsgaarden cottages. Night 2 -- Lodge in Balestrand at Balestrand Hotel. Night 3 -- Lodge in Solvorn at Eplet Bed & Apple. The lodging for night 3 is the cheapest...by far...and seems the most interesting. It's a youth hostel/campground with private double rooms available for about $90/night. It is also an apple and raspberry farm. It looks very pleasant and is seems nicely situated on the fjord for ferry boats as well as being close to the glacier that you can hike on and take a kayak trip near. It is, however, a hostel which is not something we've really done before. The lodging in Balestrand and Aurland, by comparison, is nicer and provides different places to see on the fjord, but costs about $250/night. Is it worth it to stay in these different towns at some nicer hotels or for those of you that have been to Solvorn and even stayed at Eplet, is that a good place to stay longer than 1 night? By the way, we are also willing to rent a car to facilitate getting to the places we want to see. Thanks,
Tara

Tara We stayed at the Eplet last August for 2 nights. We had 2 rooms. My wife and myself and our 1year old sleep in one room and the other my mom and dad who are in their 60's. It was a bit different at first and my mom was most skeptical about it as there are other people around but if you rent a room they really only have 2 or 3 rooms the rest is a dorm or something. By the end she loved it and we all loved it. The rooms are really small and you have to share a bath, but you get used to it. We did it with a kid. The view makes up for it. The porch is nice to sit out and have a drink. They also have mini golf course in the front yard.
We went to the glacier one day and took the boat across the foj. to the stave chuch which was cool. the town in Solvorn is not much so that is the only bad thing as there is not really anywhere to eat late. The walker hotel in town is nice but very $$$$. Overall I would stay there again to save a few bucks at it was clean and not that bad, thats just my take.
