We're a family of 4, slow-traveling through Europe, and we would like to be in the UK for October, November, and some of December. We've been renting apartments or houses for 3-6 weeks at a time, but for the UK we'd like to stay put, with day trips and overnighters throughout the area. We're thinking central UK. We'll have a car. Does anyone know of a terrific town to settle into for a few months?

What about the spa town of Royal Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. Connections to London etc by train and not far from the M40 and other motorways. About as central as you can get without going to the Midlands industrial towns and cities.

I don't have any ideas as to which town to stay in, but I'd just like to suggest that you have a good look at a road map of the UK to help you make your choice (you probably already thought of that, so sorry if I'm stating the obvious). Best wishes, Maggie.
