Sleeping Near King's Cross / St Pancras

I'm traveling with my 12-yr. old daughter in July. It is our first time in the UK. We'll be staying in London for two nights and I'm looking for place to stay. I would like to stay in the Kings Cross area, because we have an early-morning Eurostar trip to Paris the day of our departure.

I've read that Kings Cross is a recovering Red Light district. Should I be concerned?

There is a nice NH hotel across from the KC station and a little pub called Myrtles that has good kidney pie. The area is fine as long as you don't wander. You can take the bus from Kings Cross to Victoria Station or anywhere else with no problems. Enjoy.

I've stayed at the Crestfield Hotel on Crestfield St. a few times for the same reason. It's across the street and half a block from KingsCross/St Pancras and fits my budget. St Pancras station has shops, a grocery store, Boots, Marks & Spencer, cafes, etc. The area is rapidly upgrading.

... Forgive me if this is a stupid question, buy what is NH, as in "NH hotel"? I assume KC is Kings Cross.

Jonathan. We stayed at the Ibis Euston. Very happy with our choice. It's down a side street just of Euston Road. 50 metres from Euston Station and about a 12 min. walk to St.Pancras/Kings Cross. We wanted easy access to St.Pancras and Kings Cross too.
There's a great little family run pub just around the corner from the Ibis.

NH is the name of a hotel chain; one of the largest in the world. No idea what it stands for, it's a Spanish company, most of their hotels are in the moderate price range; they have a good reputation.

Another good hotel in the area is Travel Inn, 1 Dukes RD: http://www.premierinn.com

I've stayed in this are many times throughout the years, and I've never come across any type of Red Light District, or anything else seedy. But one downside is the busy Euston road which is quite noisy. On the flip side you'll be in the middle of the biggest transport hub in London, making travel throughout the city a breeze.

The Travelodge chain has three hotels that would work for you: London Kings Cross, London Kings Cross Royal Scot, and London Euston. See www.travelodge.co.uk.

If you're open to staying in a hostel, check out the YHA London St Pancras.
