Sleeping in Cardiff

I just bought the RS Great Britain 2011 book but there are no hotels or B&Bs listed for Cardiff, South Wales. Help! Any suggestions for (inexpensive) places to stay? Thanks!

Pardon me for asking, but what would draw you to Cardiff? You could do worse than Premier Inn, or other discount chains. You will often be under £50. There are now plenty of discount chains: Innkeepers, Travelodge, Ibis, Holiday Inn Express.

Pardon Nigel's pathetic ignorance, but he doesn't appreciate the scope of the National Museum (or the scope of the hottie who runs the harbor tours for that matter). There's a brand-new ETAP about a half mile south of the castle which will stiff you about forty-five bucks a night. And, skip the castle and go out to Caerphilly instead, there's a bus or train that will do it - - something less than ten miles. Evening, Nige. .

Top of the morning, Ed. Nope, dunno about the National Museum. I want musea I rock up to London. Going there on Monday to view the Impressionists at the Courthold Gallery and Wallace Collection, both free on Mondays. Hottie? Hmmm.

We loved the museum in Cardiff - St. Fagans was nice too, though I've been to better open air museums. Very nice to take the boat to the harbor. We stayed at the Townhouse B&B - it was quite nice - walking distance to the town (through the very pretty park), but I know you can get something cheaper.

I took the train from London to Cardiff and stayed at the Sleeperz Hotel. It is conveniently located right next to the train station, but I didn't hear any train noise. Rooms start at £50 per night, and they sometimes offer specials. I walked everywhere, but there is a bus stop right outside the hotel. Here's the link: http://www.sleeperz.com/ And tripadvisor reviews: http://goo.gl/mAVRR

Thanks to all who replied. Nigel, we've heard that N Wales is better than S Wales but there's a car rally there on the day we were planning to visit and therefore "no room at the inn." It's also far off our linear path of London to Bath and back (then day trips from London). We already planned to see the St. Fagans museum and Caerphilly Castle; I don't think we'll have time for any more than that and we must be in Bath on the 10th. I'll always be looking for reasons to return (once I've won the lottery) so N Wales will continue to reside on the Wish List. :)
