Sleeper from Penzance to London

Has anyone taken the sleeper train from Penzance to London? We're going to be heading from Cornwall to London on a weekday and the possibility of maximizing time by using this to cover the distance is interesting. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I havent done it. But that way you miss the scenery. I have taken train from London to South Wales and find the scenery (for virtually all the journey) to be enjoyable. And Devon and Cornwall would be even more so by train. (We have done that area by car a number of times).

Well, I haven't taken the sleeper... but I have slept overnight! And I agree with Brian. That trip is just gorgeous. The scenery is well worth staying up for!

We're taking it on July 10 from London to Falmouth. If you can wait that long, I'll report back. We want to maximize our time, too. We'll see the scenery on our way back to London.

We highly recommend the Night Riviera sleeper train. Last week we took the train from London to Falmouth. My husband and I had a double sleeper and our teen son had a single sleeper. We arrived at Paddington around 10. We were allowed to use the first class waiting area which was very nice. It had wifi and free water, coffee, tea and other snacks, and it was a very comfortable place to wait. We were allowed on the train at 10:30. The attendant explained our sleeper compartment and asked when we wanted our wake up call and took our breakfast order. Our room had 2 berths and a sink. It was small, but very clean and in good order. Our son had one berth, a sink and a tv. There was a control for the heating and cooling. Each of us was provided with towel, washcloth and a small toiletry bag with toothbrush and paste, a razor and shaving cream, an eye mask and earplugs, soap and some other items. The bathroom was down the hall. We went to sleep before the train left at 23:50. I woke up a few times, but I generally had a very good night's sleep. Our attendant woke us up about 40 minutes before our stop. She brought coffee and cereal for my husband and tea and a croissant with jam and butter for me. We arrived in Falmouth feeling like we'd had a good night's sleep. All in all, a very good experience that I would highly recommend.

That's a great review, Mary, full of detail and information. I'm so glad you posted. 40 minutes before arrival seems a little close to me. Is that what you had asked for or was she late? I've always wondered how that sleeper is...

Why would you want to take a sleeper? - you will miss the wonderful scenery. We did this journey, leaving Penzance at about 9.30am. on a weekday. It was an easy journey.
