Skipinnish Ceilidh House

Has anyone ever been to the Skipinnish Ceilidh House in either Oban or Ft. William? It sounds pretty interesting with the Scottish music and dancing!

The one in Ft William a long time ago (assuming the proper noun is the same).

The music is the trite songs you'd expect delivered without a lot of enthusiasm or talent. Don't know much about dancing, but it seemed mechanical. The food sucked and the whole deal was pretty steep in price.

Been back through the area bunches of times and never thought about revisiting. It's become one of the jokes about the dumber things we've done.

Thanks Ed. I'm pretty sure I just need to hire you full time to help me plan this trip! Your advice is great!

Are you looking for a place to hear music? If you're in the mid Perthshire area, Dunkeld's Music Bar, now called The Taybank often has great music. Check out their website.

Also, if you are in the north check out what is happening at The Pavillion in Strathpeffer. Wish I was there for New Year's!

In Edinburgh try Sandy's Bells. Also, Glasgow has great music. Look in the west end over city centre, I believe.

My family and I went to the one in Oban two Summers ago. I found it a pleasant way to spend one evening. The price to get in was not that much. The one in Oban does not include food. Basically, you walk up to the second floor area. A band is set-up near a dance floor. There are a few rows of chairs and a bar in the corner. You can just hang out and listen to the music. There is some optional dancing (Virginia Reel style). It was like going to a bar with music and paying a cover charge. It was quite laid back. There was one Ceilidh dancer that night who performed several traditional dances. While it was not a must-see, it gave us something to do one night. I don't regret it. ---Barb
