I plan to be in Ireland October 16-25 and would like to take an excursion to Skellig Michael, weather permitting. Does anyone know if this is possible in late October? Rick's book is a little confusing. He says excursions are scheduled from Easter to late September but also says Murphy Sea Cruise runs from April to October.
Gail,
I don't know for sure, but I would doubt that anyone would be heading out there in late October. Even if they were, you'd most likely get there only to find that the trip was cancelled due to weather. Rough seas frequenly make trips to the Skelligs impossible, and so they are only run during the tranquil late spring and summer months.
Sorry for the disappointing response, but you can still get great views of the Skelligs from numerous spots along the Ring. You can also visit the Skelligs museum. I believe it's in Portmagee on the inner "no buses" portion of the Ring (check Rick's Ring drive itinerary).
Enjoy your trip.
