Single parent with child(different last name)-travel documents needed ?

Hello,my 13 yr old child/I will be traveling to the UK, in June. She has her Dad's last name and her own US passport. Her Father is OK with the trip. Do I need a notarized, or legal document(to show British/US customs) that she can leave the US, or return to the US, with me ?
Thank you.

I traveled with my daughter in your exact scenario throughout her teen years. I just wrote a note that I had permission to travel internationally with my daughter, using our names of course, and her father signed and dated it. I felt comfortable that I had it but was never asked in for it. Perhaps they would be more stringent with a 6 year-old, but we were never questioned. We traveled throughout Europe on many occasions.

I never had any kind of papers with me when I traveled with our daughters (husband didn't go with us), they were young for their first trip 5 & 7, and didn't have any trouble what so ever, but that was a few years ago. But I think I would do as Wray suggested, have your daughter's father sign a paper and have it notarized just is case you are asked.
