short sleeve or long sleeve

Trying to focus on packing this week before we leave for Ireland next Sunday, will be there 10 days. Should I take short sleeve shirts, with a jacket or long sleeve and a jacket, trying to decide how cold it will be.
thanks

Long sleeve with a jacket, and a very light, packable raincoat with a detacheable hood.

I'm sure you have already researched the average April/May temps. In the next couple of days go on the internet and check out the 10 - 14 day forecast for the areas of Ireland you will be visiting. That information will be very helpful in determining what clothes to bring. Remember that weather is very changeable. Layer. Be prepared by bringing long sleeves, sweaters and a rain jacket.

You can roll up long sleeves, on the other hand . . . .

hi, also this will depend on what youre accustomed to in terms of weather. When i was there last march, it was cooler in the am/pm but nice in the daytime. Since im accustomed to rail and cooler weather, i was walking around in long sleeve shirt w/o jacket. I got enough looks tho since everyone else was bundled up. i did bring a jacket but no rain gear but i was lucky that i didnt need a jacket most of the times since the weather was good (from my view). happy trails.

I used both. Some days either a SS or LS tee was a layer under the LS button blouse or just the cardigan, other days both the blouse & cardigan, or cardigan & fleece with rain jacket. You get the idea. Layering your wardrobe is best advice. Umbrella always got blown away so on windy day you're better off with hood, hat with hood. The rain fell vertical & almost semed horizontal a times. I was always dry and warm but never cold with layering each day. My Clothes Rainjacket with a removable liner & hood (never removed hood) Waterproof leather shoes & waterproof walking shoes (black). 2 Long sleeve tees 1 Long sleeve Blouse 2 Short sleeve tees 1 Cami Tee 2 Sweaters: One mid weight, one lighter weight. Light fleece. Hat & Gloves & a light scarf Neck scarf 1 Jeans 2 Pants Pjs
Pair of light weight silks: LS top & a bottom (black)

I visited Ireland from Mid-May to early June. Temperatures & weather
varied greatly.

hi, i did some experimenting with shirt and sox on my last trip. I got some Columbia Sportsware LS travel shirts from REI. they were suppose to wick away moisture, have sunblock, have several pockets, quick to dry and had roll up sleeves. They did as they said. but it appears they they are going to pill up, but thats okay with me for now. I will wait n see for the next revision. im not usually a LS guy unless i have to. but with all of the pockets on the shirt i was able to carry the stuff i wanted to with ease. happy trails.

Michelle, I think that Diane has very good advice. I always have a least one short sleeved shirt. It may be that I'm an eternal optimist, but I've found that I've usually worn it at least once. :) P{Am

You will never be sorry having long sleeves in Ireland. Even on nice days, it can change and turn cool and wet. We had great weather when we visited in May, but not really short sleeve weather - just comfortable and relatively dry.
