My son and girlfriend will have a short layover in Amsterdam on their way back from Africa. I think they said 3 or 3 1/2 hours. Is there any way they can at least see a little of the city in this short time without worrying about making their flight home to the US?
That seems a little tight doesn't it, Cindy? After all they will need 3 hours or so at the airport for check in and security clearance. Will their bags be checked all the way through so at least they won't have to worry about Customs and bag security and bag check? Once they come out of the secure area they can't get a bye to skip the lines, they will have to go through all the security again....
Since Schiphol airport has been remodeled there are quite a few things to do there, museum, shop, eat, drink. Its not hard to spend a few hours there and be entertained.
Nigel, I thought it seemed impossible. But just thought I'd ask!
Monte - that's what I told them. I'm sure there are plenty of shops in the airport to get a feel of the city. I told them they better bring me home a souvenier!
If the total layover is 3-3 1/2 hours, there is no way they should leave the airport. When I came home a couple of weeks ago, it look more than 40 minutes just to get through the immigration line. I was at the airport more than 2 1/2 hours early and by the time I cleared immigration, grabbed a bite to eat, and went through security at my gate, I didn't even have to sit down because the plane was boarding. In addition to shops, there is a lot of interesting art at the airport, including a small branch of the Rijksmuseum and a huge Escher piece.
