Shannon airport question

I will be starting a 14 day trip in Dublin and ending in Galway. I was going to take the 3 hour train ride back to Dublin for a flight out but have seen several posts on the Shannon airport. How far is it from Galway? Would it better to fly from there instead of taking the train to Dublin? If you fly from Shannon, does it stop in Dublin or fly to your destination without a stop in Dublin. Thanks for your help!

If I recall correctly, Galway is about an hour's drive from Shannon airport. I'm sure there are other ways to get there from Galway if you're using public transport. Whether or not it's better to leave from Shannon would depend on what it would cost to change your ticket (if you have one already at this point). I prefer Shannon, but I always drive and it's easier to return the car there. The Aer Lingus flights out of Shannon do stop in Dublin before crossing the Atlantic.

I think it's actually more than an hour. I would plan on about two. The road from Ennis to Shannon has been under construction and there was a detour when we were there. But Shannon is a nice little airport and easy to get around. I would pick it over Dublin.

It's 84 km from Galway to Shannon according to viamichelin, and it's estimated at 1 hour, 17 minutes. Of course if there is a detour it could take longer.

Please check w/your airline. If you can fly out of Shannon, please do. If you are able to change your outbound flight thru Shannon you will not regret it.

Also, if you are renting a car & were able to get your flight out of Shannon call the rental car compnay and change the return location, because you will more than likely be able to return the rental car in Shannon AND car rental return in Shannon is SO much easier than in Dubs.

Finally, if you are using public transport the Bus Eriann is very reliable. You can get buses to anywhere in Galway at the bus station/train station right of Eyre Square, City Centre Galway.

Have a good time!
