took the tour fall 2010 and was told that one of the attractions of performances is that one can bring food for eating during the performances. we were left with the impression that one could bring dinner with wine. i know that they sell food on the premises. want to insure that it isn't like US sports venues where food can be consumed, so long as purchased within the venue. also want to insure that drink includes alcohol and not just soft drinks or water. has anyone brought, from the outside to include wine or beer, lunch or dinner to a performance at the globe? any problems?
In the plays I've seen there, I've never seen anyone drinking anything other than the drinks available on site, same for ice cream/food. It's very tight quarters, even with buying seats, and would be somewhat difficult to eat during the performance without disturbing other people. I'm curious if anyone else has ever noticed this.
I cannot imagine anyone being able to eat there. the sitting space is fairly cramped. Are you sure they werent talking about the Globe in Shakespeare's time
You can eat and drink within the theatre during the performance, but no glass bottles are allowed for safety reasons. However, the food allowed is limited to sandwiches etc - after a pizza place opened opposite the theatre entrance a couple of years ago rules were introduced banning more substantial food after actors complained about people eating them in the theatre.
Food is allowed, drinks must be in plastic containers per the Globe's website. http://www.shakespeares-globe.org/theatre/boxoffice/frequentlyaskedquestions/
