Senior Working in Ballina; Then a week's tour of countryside

All help appreciated: Will be working in Ballina and Enniscrone (Counties Mayo and Sligo) June 16-29. Flying from Dublin July 6. What to see between June 29 and July 2? Three days (July 3-5) enough in Dublin? Rather not drive and would like to avoid a marathon. Enjoy small picturesque towns. Recommended B & Bs? Rail? Bus? Both? First trip to Ireland. Oh, and I'm a single female as well as (healthy) senior. Many thanks!

Three days should be plenty in Dublin. Some things I'd recommend to see there: the Georgian house tour at 29 Lower Mount St., Kilmainham Gaol, the National Museum, Trinity College and the Book of Kells, St Stephens Green, Grafton St, Temple Bar area.

Most of my experience with small towns has been in the west, but I'm not sure how easily accessible they are by public transport, since I have always rented a car. County Clare (Shannon airport area) has Lahinch, Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher, and the Burren.

Thanks, Nancy. Wish I were flying in/out of Shannon but my employer made the arrangements. Your recommendations are echoed in the advice of others as well. Any help with where to stay in Dublin? I'm on my own at that point and with limited funds. Want a quiet place; am assuming public transportation is good. --Regina

I stayed at the Glen Guesthouse on Gardiner St. It's just a couple of block from O'Connell St, but it's an area of hostels and guesthouses. I didn't notice any noise from the street. Their website is: www.glenguesthouse.com
