Since GB is an island, I'm confident there is a plethora of coastal towns and villages worth visiting. We hope to be traveling in September, visiting Edinburgh, and not yet sure of other Scottish locations to visit. We will be in the vicinity of London. We're willing to do day trips from either location. My husband enjoys sailing, and simply visiting harbors to see the various boats, and perhaps chat with their owners. We both enjoy the atmosphere that quaint coastal towns and villages provide. We especially enjoy the restaurants that showcase their local seafood. What are your favorite coastal locations, and why? I have visited GB in the distant past, my husband has never visited.
I like Tobermory on the isle of Mull. Plockton gets good comments. The villages on the coast in Fife are very picturesque. And, if you go to the northeast Buckie and the villages along the north coast are nice as well. I like Dornoch too. There are so many places that you can visit in Scotland. Culross on the north coast of the Firth of Forth is a very historic town to visit. Arbroath is not only where the declaration of Arbroath was signed, and have an Arbroath Smokie, one of the most wonderful pieces of fish you'll ever eat. Pam
If you are interested in day trips by train from London, check out the article I wrote (link below). While it is hardly a "village" we enjoyed our day trip to Dover. The castle was wonderful and the WWII conncections were great.

Hi Dianne,
I live on the South coast- Lymington has a small harbour with lots of yachts and is an old town with plenty of character; just up the road from Lymington is Beaulieu (pronounced Bewlee) where the Lord Montague car collection is housed. Buckler's Hard (old smuggler's haunt) is nearby, too.
It's about 2 hours by train from London.
Lots of good restaurants in the area.
