My friend and I are going to Scotland in May. We're going to have time for one island (or set of islands, in the case of Mull and Iona). What's your preference and why?

Sarah, I don't really have a preference since I have not been to Mull/Iona. But I will say that I absolutely loved Skye. I was there with a lighthouse tour group and we hiked out to Niest Pt which was spectacular. I also enjoyed Dunvegan castle and gardens - I was there in July but I would think they would be beautiful in May also. We stayed right in Portree, some people don't like the town much and prefer to stay in b&b's out in the countryside but I liked it. I don't think you can go wrong with Skye.
