Hello! I will be traveling to Scotland mid July and wanted to know if they use the euro? Or do they strictly stick to using the pound? Thank!
Scotland is (still) part of the United Kingdom and does not use the euro.
In Scotland you will find currency issued by the Bank of England, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and the Caledonian Bank. The last two will be hard to use if you go very much south of the border. Its all very interesting, as are some of the coins. This was as of 2 1/2 years ago.
No Euro in Scotland, only Pounds. ; ). I did see someone try to use a Euro on Mull 10 years ago without much success. Pam
Kimberly, The "official" currency of Scotland is Pounds Sterling. As Monte mentioned, these will be issued by several Banks. If you'll be in England following your visit to Scotland, you may find that Bank of Scotland or Caledonian Bank notes are not always accepted.
On occassion I have ended up with a few Scottish bank notes after a trip to Scotland. I had no problem exchanging them at a bank in London for Bank of England notes
There is little problem these days spending notes from Scottish banks in Ireland. Much easier in fact than spending notes from Northern Ireland in Scotland. Foreign exchange offices outside the UK are not keen on them though so use them up.
