Scotland---one day side tour trips

HI

Still working on our itinerary for the upcoming trip in Sept. We will probably spend 3-4 nights each in Edinburgh, Inverness and probably Glasgow. Would like to do 1 or 2 day side trips from each place with a tour group. Can anyone suggest any tours for us. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We will also be flying into London and possible stay 2-3 nights there. One other thing we will have a car once we get into Edinburgh, I know, no need to drive around the city so we will be parking the car unless needed to travel outside.

We enjoyed a (very long) day trip from Inverness to the Orkney Islands, since we wanted to see Skara Brae. We also saw the Ring of Brodgar and some other sites. The drive north was pretty, the drive back south was gorgeous, due to the quality of the light.

The Orkney trip is a nice one, though very long. Puffin Tours do a small group (up to 15 people) trip to Isle of Skye- with a stop at Elliean Donnan castle, and photo ops in Glencoe and other places. It may also include Arundale castle ruins and gardens- not sure on that. Check them out online as they do lots of good day trips out of Inverness. Jacobite tours do cruises up Loch Ness with stops at Urquart Castle and the village of Drumnadrochit as well as cruises on the firth. Heavenly Highland offers even smaller tours, including whisky tours- not sure if they operate out of Inverness, but check online (I know they do tours out of Aviemore so Inverenss is a possibility).
