We will have a car, but unfortunately only a few days in Scotland over Thanksgiving. Will be staying in Edinburgh, so not really enough time to drive up to the "whisky trail" area, or over to Islay or Oban for a day trip. But we are big fans of good single malt scotch and would really enjoy visiting a couple of distilleries on a day trip. Ideas?
Dahlwinnie
We toured Dalwhinie this summer- a good tour and a fine whiskey. Also check out Balvenie. I love their 12 year old double wood.
Be sure and call the distillery before you go to make sure they are open. We spent an extra day in Edinburgh to go to a distillery but found out they were closed, even though the brochure said they should be open. I think they were closed for minor repairs or something and this was at the end of March this year.

Check out Iain Banks book Raw Spirits. Outstanding book on Whisky and Scotland.
Even though you have a car you might want to check out these sites... www.heavenlyhighlands.com look at their "Whisky in the wild" tour. and
