Scotland Day Trip Bus

This is an embarrassing question to ask, but here goes: we are traveling in Scotland in September. We have booked 4 nights in Edinburgh and would like to take at least 1 day trip. I have looked at several online and one that looks interesting to us is the Highlands Day Trip. You leave early (I think around 8 am) and return around the same time in the evening. I have a medical condition that sometimes is very inconvenient and prompts me to need a loo often. Do the buses have bathroom on them? How often are the stops on the day trips? I don't like to think that this might cause us not to go on a day trip. But I don't think I'll be able to ask the driver to stop just for me! I've thought about us renting a car and just going at our own pace. We plan on renting a car in England the week before, so we shouldn't have much problem driving in Scotland. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing. What do you travelers think that have been on the day trips? Thank you.

This is an important travel question and others may benefit from it. I will be taking day trips as well. I am going on Rabbie's Tours. I have not been on their coaches yet. I believe Rabbie's has small coaches and may not have a bus bathroom. However, Rabbie's is very easy to contact and discuss this by email. I was able to obtain information from them easily. I would think the larger Bus type coaches would have an onboard bathroom. I have taken tours elsewhere and there was an onboard bathroom. I would contact the tour company directly. Tour companies probably get this question regularly. Be sure to bring flushable wipes with you when you travel. I do!

We took 2 Rabbies tours last year, a day trip to St. Andrews and the 5 day tour to the Highlands. Their van has a max 16 person seating capacity. Bathroom stops were pretty frequent and our guide was very accommodating if you have special requests. He even helped a guy in our group locate the birthplace of his mother which was out of our way. We are booked again with them this July to Oarkney and the Outer Hebrides. We Love Scotland.

Thank you so much! I can't wait for our trip. Everyone I've talked to that has been to Scotland has loved it! My husband's ancestry is there, so we will have a lot of questions as well.

Cindy,
My daughter and I just returned from Edinburgh and took a day trip to the Highlands including Loch Ness through Highland Experience Tours. Our bus was a 32-seater and did not have a loo. The longest stretch of time without a bathroom was about 2 hours at the most, but we typically stopped somewhere every hour. The driver was apologetic about the longer stretch, but there was nowhere to stop during that leg of the journey. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip! You are in for a treat.

Cindy, I can't thank you enough for the details. I think we are going to have a marvelous time and I won't have to worry about stopping for a break.

This website is very helpful. My mother was supposed to go to Scotland a few years ago but had to cancel due to her brother passing the month she was supposed to go. She is elderly and now has heart problems and still wishes to go while she is still able. I am afraid to fly normally but will go with her. I think it will be memorable trip for both of us.
