Scotland and Ireland

I've been thinking about traveling to Scotland and Ireland for 11 days in November I was thinking a few days each in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dublin. I will not be renting a car and plan to do most of my traveling via train or plane. Any suggestions or thoughts on my itinerary would be helpful

Thanks.

Julia,

Can you let us know more about your interests? We can be helpful that way.

I've been to Dublin but not Scotland. Still, 11 days seems like a reasonable amount of time for these 3 cities. Given that you won't have a car, it makes sense to go to cities where you can walk to many sites and use public transit.

Some of Dublin's major sites include: Trinity College (Book of Kells), Kilmainhaim Gaol, National Museum (archaeological treasures of Ireland), and, of course, the pubs for traditional Irish music, good food and drinks, and good craic with the locals.

Also in Dublin: History walks, such as the 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour; If you want a sampling of the pubs with a guide, try either the Literary Pub Crawl, or the Musical Pub Crawl (both are great); Also there is Dublin Castle, and the Dublin Writers Museum. For a day-trip outside of Dublin catch a minibus tour to Newgrange.

Personally, I'd go to Inverness rather than Glasgow. You can see more history and nature there. Culloden battlefield, Clava Cairns, Loch Nessm, Glen Coe and Great Glen, Isle of Skye, etc. All and more can be done from Inverness. You could fly into Edinburgh, take the train to Inverness, then fly to Dublin- or vice versa.

It would be terrible to travel all the way to Ireland and not see the dingle peninsula!!! It's magical and it's something that everyone should see on a trip to Ireland. Please consider it!!!!
